UNIFY’s response to UK Far Right Riots

We profoundly condemn the racist and Islamophobic riots that have spread across the country. As colleagues who work in Housing, we know that thriving, diverse and inclusive communities are at the heart of a fair society.

We stand in solidarity with all our colleagues and residents from every walk of life and belief. We know that many residents and colleagues are experiencing varying levels of anxiety and concern for their safety as they try to navigate work and life, whilst remaining highly vigilant.

This is the impact of these abhorrent actions, a dark ripple effect that threatens the values of freedom, unity and inclusion that we, as a volunteer-driven organisation strive and work towards.

Diversity
is our strength! It is our hope that organisations are taking appropriate and sufficient action to ensure the safety of colleagues and residents. We call for strong action to be taken to address the underlying systemic societal issues that uphold these violent racist acts.

We support our peers at the Housing Diversity Network who have provided some essential and useful advice for housing providers to support their residents through the riots. Read here for more.

We recently hosted a special listening session for our members, which offered a private and safe space for social housing staff to share support and experiences. Below you can view a summary of sentiments to the recent far-right riots across the UK. The general messages coming from staff are clear and profound. These can serve as a reference point for organisations who want to listen and act accordingly within the G15 and beyond.
